The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) signed Adama-Awash, Addis Ababa-Gohatsion, and Makalle-Adigudom-Wukiro road repair, and Makalle-Dengolat-Samre-Finarawa and Dulcha-Awash road construction project agreements with three government owned companies.
Signing the agreement, Authority Director General Araya Girmay said that ERA has signed the contract agreements with Ethiopian Road Construction Works Corporation, Amhara Road Construction Works Enterprise and Defencee Construction Enterprise to undertake the maintenance of the 60-kms Adama-Awash, the 65-kms Addis Ababa-Gohatsion, and the 92-kms Makalle-Adigudom-Wukiro road projects respectively.

The Defence Construction Enterprise also signed the agreement with the Authority to execute the construction of Makalle-Dengolat-Samre-Finarawa road project with a total capital of over one billion Birr. The road construction agreements signed with the Defence Construction Enterprise is expected to be completed in seven years period.
According to the agreement, the Ethiopian Road Construction Works Corporation would undertake the construction of Dulcha-Awash road project with a total capital of over 693 million Birr. The construction is expected to be completed in two years and half period.
Noting that the total 5.4 billion Birr cost of the road construction will be fully covered by the Ethiopian government, Araya said the construction companies need to complete the projects on schedule. The Authority would continue providing support to make the road projects play crucial role in strengthening socio-economic link with neighboring villages, he added.
Representatives of the companies on their part affirmed that they would do their level best to finalize the road projects with the anticipated quality and allocated budget. [Eth. Press]
